Gray wolves (canis lupus) have been listened as “endangered” under the United States Endangered Species Act since 1973. The US Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed to change the classification. Based on the best available science, they believe that gray wolves have recovered and no longer require a designation as “threatened” or “endangered.”
