Get Your Wings In British Columbia – 2017 Moose Hunts
December 5, 2016See You This Winter – Hunting Show Schedule
December 20, 2016One of the things that makes our hunting experiences so extraordinary are the combo hunt opportunities in British Columbia. There are very few places anywhere in the world that afford such trophy quality for so many different species.
This northern edge of British Columbia is incredibly remote, very huntable in terms of terrain, and rich in game. While hunting from a single camp, our hunters may be able to encounter moose, mountain caribou, mountain goat, stone sheep and grizzly. And this area is home to B&C class animals among all five of those species. On a ten-day hunt, two species is very realistic. If a hunter is willing to move quickly from one to the next with little down time, three species is certainly possible.
Planning a combo hunt can present a number of options. It can be difficult to know where to begin. With that in mind, here’s an overview of our combo hunt opportunities in British Columbia and our advice on getting started.
When considering the species you’re interested in pursuing, we find it helpful to pick a primary species. If you could go home with one trophy, which one would it be? Selecting that primary species will help narrow the ideal dates for your hunt. From there, secondary species more easily fall into place.
For example, early September is an ideal time to hunt mountain goats while the weather is still generally cooperative. If you have your heart set on a goat, you might consider a hunt during the first half of the month. This is also a great time to hunt grizzlies when the bears congregate on mountainsides full of ripening berries.
If moose is your primary objective, you’d certainly want to plan your hunt around the rut, which generally begins in mid-September and runs through the first week or so of October. This is also the time when big mountain caribou bulls can be seen moving up into the open country of the high plateaus.
No matter what your interest, we look forward to helping you plan your ideal hunt! If you have questions about our combo hunts or the different opportunities, please give us a call at 780-675-1942 or send us a message.
