May 15, 2019A good pair of hunting boots will make or break your hunt experience. We get questions all the time about what boots should we bring? While this question can be tough to answer because everyone has different feet and needs to make a comfortable boot. If you haven’t ever had your feet mapped for custom orthotics, this could be a game changer in how your boots feel and fit.
While we understand for some it might seem like a daunting task or be a bit pricey, there are other forms of finding some new insoles that might help make your boot more comfortable. Such as going to a local shoe store or running store and having them do a quick analysis on your feet. They often have insoles you can try and find some that will fit comfortably.
As far as boots are concerned, here are a few we recommend that have worked well in the past.
- Scarpa Kinesis
- Scarpa Triolet
- Kennetrek Mountain Extreme
- Lowa Tibet
- HanWag Makra
- Cabela’s Perfekt Hunter
And of course, there are numerous other boot manufacturers and models on the market. These are just a few that are fairly popular and have served numerous mountain hunters well. A boot with Gore-Tex is crucial for this type of country. The last thing you want are wet feet on this type of hunt. We also highly recommend wearing your boots for a solid few months before your hunt. Go walk on local trails, local stadium stairs, hills around your house or even to the gym. Get those boots broke in and comfortable. Don’t wait until the last minute and show up on the hunt with a brand new pair and find out they aren’t going to work once you’re already on the mountain.
Also, look in to purchasing some Grangers Foot Repel or Paste Wax for technical style boots. Or use the wax on leather boots. Another option is Obenauf’s Leather Oil. This will help condition leather boots and protect them from cracking and drying out. After a hunt make sure to clean your boots and re-apply one of these products to help protect it for your next adventure.
