British Columbia Hunting Season Update
October 21, 2016A Look Back at Our 2016 Moose Hunting Season
October 27, 2016When speaking to hunters about the experience we offer here at North River Outfitting, there are a number of things that we believe set our hunts apart from the rest. If you’ve followed us for long, you’ve heard us talk about the numbers and outstanding quality of the game. You’ve probably heard us mention the remote nature of our area and the fact that we have no outside hunting pressure.
But there’s one thing that is perhaps as important as the trophy quality, game density and remoteness. And that’s the fact that we hunt where nobody else possibly can.
First, we don’t use horses. There are no long hours in the saddle in order to travel from our main lodge to our spike cabins or camps. How do we access our area? We use charter planes and Ron himself is a pilot, having been flying since he was 19 years old. This allows us to set camps in remote places and shuttle small loads from our main lodge when necessary.
The remote location of our lodge and the ability to use planes to shuttle small loads means that we can access and hunt in places where nobody else can. And rather than a painfully long horseback ride to and from a hunting area, we do it in a quick 20 minute flight.
Not only is our hunting area the most remote in British Columbia, but we’re able to hunt parts of it that would otherwise never be hunted. In turn, this allows us to practice excellent game management. We might only take a mountain goat out of a given area every three years. That means, by the time we fly you into an area for your hunt, it’s possible that those animals haven’t been hunted in years.
Our goal is to continually improve the trophy quality in our area and someday leave it better than when we arrived. In the meantime we certainly expect our hunters to benefit from this careful management and the ability to use much of our vast hunting area.
That said, we hunt a chunk of wilderness that is incomprehensibly large. There are areas that we still have never been. There are even areas that Ron has never flown over – and he flies a lot! We are always exploring, always learning something new about this spectacular wilderness. More than anything, we enjoy inviting our clients to be a part of this great adventure.
