May 16, 2016Sure, it gets a little cold here in Alberta. But it’s all about the big whitetails! Alberta, Canada is home to some of the biggest whitetail deer on the planet. And hunting these bucks in the rut is something that every deer hunter should experience. As long as you’re well prepared for the weather, you’ll forget to notice it!
On our trophy whitetail hunts in November, hunters can expect daytime temperatures to be in the 30s (Fahrenheit) while lows can often dip close to zero. However, all of our hunters enjoy hunting from blinds that are equipped with propane heaters. Between the deer hunting action and the comfortable heaters, the cold will hardly be on your mind.
In any case, we do recommend that hunters come prepared for the weather. Equipping yourself with high quality hunting clothing means staying more focused on the hunt. We recommend gear that’s warm, lightweight and comfortable. For one, Sitka Gear makes outstanding cold weather whitetail hunting gear. It’s at the top of the price point, but for good reason.
Even when comparing other options, use that as the standard and begin price shopping from there. Being warm and comfortable in the blind means staying focused on the mission and prepared at all times throughout the day. When that opportunity unfolds, be ready to capitalize.
No matter what gear you pack, one of the most important things is to practice shooting in it before your trip. Make sure you’re comfortable shooting while wearing your jacket and all other clothing that you’ll have on the hunt. The moment that a giant Alberta whitetail walks within range is not the time to have any miscues or discover problems with your setup.
We are really looking forward to the 2016 deer hunts here at North River Outfitting! After a relatively mild winter this year, our deer should be in excellent shape going into the season. Our guides work extremely hard to prep for the season and we can’t wait to see many of you here.
