British Columbia Hunting Outfitter Adventure
January 27, 2020Shed Hunting Season
March 2, 2020We have had the opportunity over the years to try a lot of freeze-dried meals in the backcountry. Whether it be on hunts, scouting trips or on our travel too and from one of these locations, you name it we’ve probably had it. One of the key features about a freeze-dried meal is it’s ability to provide you with a lot of nutrients at the end of a hard day with it’s minimal weight and space in your pack compared to fresh food off the store shelf.
You simply can’t pack a steak, potatoes and fresh veggies with you on a backpack style hunt. I suppose you could, but your pack would weigh about 150lbs with food… I don’t know about you, but that certainly doesn’t sound like a fun time climbing mountains all day with that on your back, haha!
All of that being said, lets get down to business. We have used main staples in the freeze-dried food industry like Mountain House, Backpackers Panty and more. A newer one on the market is Peak Refuel and they have come on to the scene with full force. They offer a great assortment of meals and they are truly delicious. We will be looking at these as an option for our hunters in the coming seasons.
As an outfitter, we like to accommodate all of our clients with meals they enjoy while in the backcountry. If you have a special request, please let us know for your hunt!
While eating freeze-dried might not be desired by some, we certainly understand that. We do our best to provide you with other items to eat on your hunt. Protein bars, nuts, oatmeal, jerky etc. If you are successful on your hunt our guides will do their best to prepare a gourmet meal from a backstrap or tenderloin as a little celebration if time permits. So our initial statement about packing steaks in the backcountry, we just have to track them down first.
Please let us know if you have any food allergies before you hunt so we can accommodate and make sure you enjoy your hunt as much as possible!
