2015 Trophy Whitetail Hunt Openings
April 13, 2015Summer Update: Cancellation Hunts Open
July 20, 2015Our British Columbia wilderness hunts take place in some of North America’s wildest and most spectacular country. These mountain hunts are both challenging and very exciting. Whether hunting moose and mountain caribou in the valleys, or mountain goat and stone sheep on steep, rugged slopes, these hunts offer no shortage of adventure.
Prospective clients often ask us about the most important things they need in advance of their hunt. In addition to having good clothing, boots, optics and other basic gear, there are really just three things that any hunter needs. Here are your highest priority assignments to prepare for your British Columbia wilderness hunt:
1. A Tough Mental Attitude
Come on this hunt ready for adventure and ready for fun. Be prepared to work hard each and every day of your hunt. For most hunters, it’s easy to get motivated the first and second day of the hunt. But by the third and even fourth day, it’s easy to lose concentration.
Having a tough mental attitude is especially important if you are pursuing two or even three different species. When working for multiple trophies on a hunt, every moment and every opportunity counts. Even late in the hunt when you may be tired and worn down, you must be prepared to be quick, make sound judgments and avoid mistakes.
2. Proficiency With Your Rifle or Bow
This is important on any hunt, not just a hunt in the vast wilderness of British Columbia. However, it’s something that we constantly stress to our clients before arrival. Proficiency with your rifle or bow does not mean sighting in or practicing at the range the week before departure. It means consistent practice over and over, in multiple positions and situations.
If at all possible, we would love to have our clients practicing with their rifles or bows year-round. We know that life is busy for everyone, but the more often you can practice, the better prepared you will be.
Think about it this way: after all you’ve invested in a guided hunt, your weapon is the one thing you really need to take an animal. Everything else is peripheral. Don’t miss an opportunity because you had insufficient practice with your weapon.
3. The Best Physical Condition Possible
We definitely understand that everyone has different physical abilities and limitations. But no matter yours, be in the best physical condition that you possibly can. Your ability to move through this terrain and move quickly when necessary can drastically improve your chances of success.
As with rifle or bow practice, we’d love to see all of our clients preparing year-round. Again, we know schedules are busy, but the more effort you can put toward your conditioning, the more enjoyable your hunt will be.
